Well, here we are again. Good old S.L. and myself here to talk to you guys about what I’ve been thinking about all week. So from the title you could guess that the topic is fatalism. What you might not know though is what it means to be fatalistic. Chances are you’ve heard a lot of people talk about it but never knew there was a word for it. If you want the official definition and don’t mind rabbit holes, I put the definition here .
So fatalism is basically predestination, some of you might say ” But P.Biscuits, what about free will and all that?” well dear reader let me tell you how I see it. So you have those people that say clichés like it is what it is and everything happens for a reason or it was just meant to be. Those kinds of statements are about as close to every day fatalism as you can get, regardless about how you feel on free will. Any definitions you’ll see about fatalism put it in a negative light, as if you’re surrendering to fate. Well news flash, we’re all fated to die and no amount of fighting or defiance is gonna change that. However, I see fatalism a different way, a way that sort of joins free will and predestination.
I get it, trust me. I don’t like theology either but I can’t help but get wrapped up in some force that is determining how things will pan out. Different cultures have them, the Norse had the Norns who weaved fate for everyone, there was also Freya who knew everyone’s fate but wouldn’t tell. I reconciled predestination with free will by determining that there isn’t one predestined outcome for every choice. So the same thing won’t exactly happen despite your choice, but a different timeline will be put into effect. That was kind of like that alien in Men in Black 3 that could see all different possibilities depending on small details happening around him. Kind of like that except we don’t know how our decisions will affect our future. I mean we could all take a page from Spider man’s friend Ned and just accept it really.
Star Lord doesn’t really care much for these types of philosophical musings. He’s mainly here for moral support on this post sleeping in my lap as usual. I still think we can learn from him though. He’s a cat of few words however, I think his lack of concern with fatalism or free will is something to be emulated and kind of admired. I think as humans we could probably get away with acknowledging something was destined to happen without being discouraged by it. Too many people get wrapped up in trying to control what will be and forget to live right now. Right now is where the future is made and if you keep looking in the distances you miss everything happening right now and that’s a pretty shitty life no matter how you see things.
Well this week’s post is a bit short. I do apologize for that. Looking forward I plan to better prepare my images and media and learn how to manipulate them. Me and Ole Star Lord will figure this blog game out eventually, when we do we’re gonna crack the code and entertain and teach the fuck out of everyone. You just wait and see. Welp, until next week keep safe out there and S.L. wants me to pass on a raspy little “mrow” there’s quotes because he literally said that when I asked him if he had anything to add personally.
